Vets4Vets Alive and Well
Contact: Abel Moreno, Community Development and Media Director
Hello friends -
Recently Vets4Vets has had a number of inquiries regarding our organizational and financial health.
Like other nonprofit organizations in today’s tough economy, these are not the best of times. It is likely that Vets4Vets will have to make several staff cutbacks this summer. However, thanks to recent fundraising efforts and generous grants and contributions, our basic budget is secure through the end of 2010 and we will be able to continue our important work.
Just this month, two of our staff (including Development Director Johnny Fajardo) were invited by the McCormick Foundation to a special technical training outside Chicago for prospective grantees. Our Board President Joe Sturdivant and Community Development and Media Director Abel Moreno also played prominent roles at the Second Annual Conference for the Coalition for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans (www.CoaltionForVeterans.org) in Washington, DC. Executive Director Jim Driscoll attended both meetings.
We also invited 30 leaders of our local Vets4Vets support groups around the country to Tucson for our Semi-Annual Leadership Training Workshop, and will be hosting a general workshop in Chicago in July that is open to all OIF/OEF-era Veterans.
In addition, on the eve of Memorial Day, NBC Nightly News ran an excellent story about us – please check it out at this link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/30917315#30917315.
These continue to be trying times for us veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Vets4Vets, with our national peer-support community of more than 1,000 returning veterans, is proud to be one of the key nonprofits across the nation helping us heal from the psychological injuries of combat, as well as connect with the VA and other agencies and nonprofits, reintegrate into society and lead the big, happy, influential lives we have earned.
Thank you for your concern and we would love to have your financial support so that we may continue to expand our work.
Please call us with any questions.
